Sport and Life Skills Project 2023-2024 Impact Report

The Active Essex Foundation uses sport and physical activity to reduce young people's vulnerability to exploitation and criminality across Essex, Southend and Thurrock. This report covers the 2023-24 Sport and Life Skills project, delivered in partnership with locally trusted community sport organisations and referral agencies including the Youth Justice Service and Police, showing strong growth in reach, mentoring and positive outcomes for vulnerable young people.

'Sport Plus' and 'Plus Sport' interventions combining sport and physical activity with mentoring, life skills and training for young people at risk of criminality or exploitation, delivered via a network of community sport providers with referrals from the Youth Justice Service, Police, Education and Social Care

  • 1,677 hours of mentoring delivered to 215 young people, up from 285 hours to 101 young people in 2022-23
