Impact Report 2024-25

The Freshwater Biological Association (FBA) is an independent scientific charity founded in 1929, dedicated to inspiring action to protect freshwater ecosystems through science. In 2024/25 the charity reared 50,000+ freshwater pearl mussels, co-ordinated over 10,000 Riverfly citizen science survey records across 820 rivers, and published the Big Windermere Survey report to an audience of 35–45 million. It launched the Lakefly programme, convened the first Arctic Charr Symposium and held its first Annual Scientific Meeting in several years.
