The Charterhouse is a 400-year-old almshouse charity in Clerkenwell, London, founded by Thomas Sutton in 1611 to house older people in need. Today it provides residential care for around 40 Brothers (almshouse residents) aged 60 and above in Grade I and II listed buildings on a seven-acre historic estate, alongside a CQC-rated 'Good' care home, a free public museum and learning programme, and a weekly warm space open to the local community. In 2022/23 the charity launched a new strategy focused on becoming a Community of Excellence for the Care of Older People, underpinned by the pillars of place, care and sustainability.
